Genesis 11:4&9

They said, “Now let’s build a city with a tower that reaches the sky, so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered all over the earth.” The city was called Babylon, because there the LORD mixed up the language of all the people, and from there he scattered them all over the earth.

Quiz it

  • As a family, how many languages can you all say “Hello” in?
  • What other languages can your friends speak?

After the flood people tried to build a great city and tower.

  • Why did they want to do this? Genesis 11 v.4
  • In what ways do people show off and try to become famous today?
  • How did God disrupt their building project and why?
  • What negative consequences came from people being scattered and speaking different languages? (Draw discussion towards things like wars, racism & Spanish lessons!)

The builders of the tower of Babel left God out of their project and did not use their brains and hands to please him.

  • How can we be a team with God in the way we think and act this week?

Pray it

Dear God,

Thank you for giving us brains to think with and hands to make with. We want to use them to make your name great. Help us to care for people from other cultures and languages in a way that pleases you.

Amen

Pray it + Thank God for something your brain or hands are good at doing and ask him to help you to use it for his fame.
